Great Family, Beautiful Day

Great Family, Beautiful Day

This family was ready for adventure and they were troopers.  We waded in the flats looking at live shells and walked a few miles in a short time covering lots of beach. Lauren is a long time sheller and her family says she is obsessed. Welcome to the club of obsessed shellers! It was fun walking the flats with Loren and Grant. Grant found this extremely large tulip as soon as we got off the boat. I enjoyed answering questions about the sea life on the flats with Loren and Grant. The kids were anxious to get to the beach. Once on the beach we shelled and found many good finds. Lauren is a collector of sand dollars from many different seashores. She even brought me one from Cape Cod. We were finding many large pieces of sand dollars but not a whole one. The ever determined Lauren went out on a newly formed sandbar and found two. Time seemed to fly by.  On the way back to the marina we observed many playful and curious dolphin. This was the perfect ending to a great trip with this adventurous family.

I have been a Shelling Guide to Cayo Costa State Park since 1995. Many people know me as the Shelling Guide and Captain with Captiva Cruises over the past 20 years. In 2016 I began solely offering private small boat charters to the islands of Pine Island Sound including Cayo Costa State Park, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island, Pine Island and North Captiva. I am a certified Florida Master Naturalist, licensed USCG Captain, avocational photographer, seashell enthusiast and passionate about the history, people and culture of Southwest Florida, especially Cayo Costa. I volunteer as a member of Friends of Cayo Costa State Park and have great respect for the heritage of Cayo Costa. My goal is to provide guests with an overall experience and appreciation for the waters, islands, shells, plants, marine life, wildlife, history and people of this unique area of Southwest Florida.

That first photo is beautiful. I've never seen a tulip that huge!
