Exploring The Islands

Exploring The Islands

Gail and Ric are always fun to have on the boat. Gail is full of energy and  happy to be on the water. Ric is a  keen observer.  I enjoy his insights on the many things he observes in the wild. The trip started with seeing many dolphin. The dolphin were so close you could hear each dolphin take a breath. The water was calm and the dolphins traveled past our boat. We watched until they all passed by.  Next we traveled out into the Gulf of Mexico past North Captiva. The next island to the north is Cayo Costa. It was here we found  a beautiful stretch of beach to explore. The water was beautiful and the beach  most pleasant. Unique plants were observed, and tracks in the sand were observed. We found different shells and even found a tusk shell. Our next stop was Barnacle Phil’s restaurant for some island food and atmosphere.  We managed to get both. I enjoyed the conversations of both Gail and Ric. ( I also enjoyed the books and everglades sleeping bag cover, thank you.)

I have been a Shelling Guide to Cayo Costa State Park since 1995. Many people know me as the Shelling Guide and Captain with Captiva Cruises over the past 20 years. In 2016 I began solely offering private small boat charters to the islands of Pine Island Sound including Cayo Costa State Park, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island, Pine Island and North Captiva. I am a certified Florida Master Naturalist, licensed USCG Captain, avocational photographer, seashell enthusiast and passionate about the history, people and culture of Southwest Florida, especially Cayo Costa. I volunteer as a member of Friends of Cayo Costa State Park and have great respect for the heritage of Cayo Costa. My goal is to provide guests with an overall experience and appreciation for the waters, islands, shells, plants, marine life, wildlife, history and people of this unique area of Southwest Florida.
