Young Explorers

Young Explorers

Rob, Cami and their three children, Wes, Mia and Eliza, had a stellar day on the water. I enjoyed answering questions from three young explorers from Maine. The explorers were fearless and curious as we dropped the anchor off the beaten path. They enjoyed observing live shells and seeing what these mollusks eat. The flats were full of life. The questions these young kids asked were exciting. It is such a pleasure to see kids get in the water to learn and wonder. We watched white pelicans glide past the boat. Mia found some great angel wings and Eliza had a great eye for finding lightning whelks. Wes knew all about large birds in North America and shared this with Capt. Brian. (Thanks Wes- Great job!) We all enjoyed watching dolphin on our way back to the marina. I enjoyed learning from the three young explorers and look forward to their next trip.

I have been a Shelling Guide to Cayo Costa State Park since 1995. Many people know me as the Shelling Guide and Captain with Captiva Cruises over the past 20 years. In 2016 I began solely offering private small boat charters to the islands of Pine Island Sound including Cayo Costa State Park, Cabbage Key, Useppa Island, Pine Island and North Captiva. I am a certified Florida Master Naturalist, licensed USCG Captain, avocational photographer, seashell enthusiast and passionate about the history, people and culture of Southwest Florida, especially Cayo Costa. I volunteer as a member of Friends of Cayo Costa State Park and have great respect for the heritage of Cayo Costa. My goal is to provide guests with an overall experience and appreciation for the waters, islands, shells, plants, marine life, wildlife, history and people of this unique area of Southwest Florida.

Gosh, I see a CB's summer camp on the horizon. The way you & Melanie nurture your own daughter's creative genius is amazing. These kids look like they were having a blast.

    Capt. Brian,

Thanks for the remarkable time. The kids loved it and like to see themselves on your blog, especially after the foot of snow we just received. Carpe Diem my man.

    Regards,
